St. Vincent de Paul Society

Category: Community Outreach
Description: The mission of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is to “change lives…one at a time” through prayer, spiritual exercises, works of mercy and fellowship. The St. Vincent de Paul Society, which has operated in North Georgia since 1903, is a national and international organization leading women and men to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person services to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Frederick Ozanam, and the Society’s Patron, St. Vincent de Paul. At Holy Spirit Catholic Church, this outreach is primarily centered through prayer, spiritual growth, and visits in homes of families in need.

Please note that for the safety and protection of the vulnerable populations that may be served by this ministry, all volunteers participating in this ministry must be in compliance with the requirements of the Archdiocese of Atlanta's Safe Environment Program. Please visit our Safe Environment Program webpage to learn more. A background check is also required.

Holy Spirit Conference meets for an hour and a half (6:30 PM – 8:00 PM) on the first Tuesday of each month (except July and December) in the downstairs conference room of the parish office building. The focus of these meetings is spiritual growth, fellowship and service to others.

Volunteers, working in pairs, make one or two visits monthly in addition to regular attendance at all meetings. This is a commitment of several hours. Other volunteer opportunities are ‘help-line call retrieval’, dispatching of home visit volunteers, helping with monthly collections For the Poor before and after Mass once each month. During the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas there is an opportunity to be involved with the Christmas Angel program which benefits the families who participate in the catechism classes at Centro Catolico. Bilingual volunteers and those with free time during weekdays are especially needed for many of these opportunities. New members are welcome at any time.

Parishioners who can’t join at this time are encouraged to keep the Holy Spirit Conference in their prayers. All donations given to the monthly collections for the poor are greatly appreciated. In addition direct assistance to this ministry may be made during the week at the parish office. In support of the Greater Area St. Vincent de Paul Society, parishioners can donate clothes and home goods (no food, please) to the Red Barn Storage shed located in the parking lot adjacent to the parish office. All clothing should be clean, gently used, and placed on hangers or neatly folded in boxes. Donation tax forms are available in the parish office. Donations of vehicles may be made by calling 800-322-8284 or by contacting us via email.
