Family Builders:
Building Your Domestic Church in Christ

Faith Formation for Parents and their Children, grades Preschool 3 - 4th

Holy Spirit Religious Education is here to support and guide parents as they share their Catholic faith with their children.  Faith formation is a life-long journey; On-going participation is expected.

At Baptism, parents commit to raising their child in the Catholic faith.  As leaders of their domestic church, parents are the primary teachers of their children’s faith educating them by example and instruction. This includes participation in a faith formation program through enrollment in a Catholic School or a parish school of religious education.

Classes Offered

To support parents, Holy Spirit parish offers Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation Classes, including:

  • Family Faith Foundations:  St. John Paul II said, “Families become what you are!” As the leaders of their families, parents are the cornerstone of their domestic church. Join Heather Kerutis to learn everyday tools to build and strengthen your domestic church.  A nursery is available.  For more information look under Nursery.
  • Good Shepherd Early Learning (PS-3 – K):  Enriches the faith and spiritual lives of young children with abundant opportunities for prayer, developmentally appropriate lessons with Scripture, saints, art and music.
  • Christ Our Life (Grades 1 – 4):  Fosters children’s love of God and guides them toward a life of discipleship with interactive lessons and activities celebrating the teachings of the Catholic Church.  For reception of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion during the 2nd-grade year, we adhere to the Archdiocesan guidelines that require two years of formal formation either in Catholic school or a parish school of Religion as preparation. Therefore, at 1st grade, all children intending to prepare for sacraments should be enrolled in a Catholic School or parish school of religion. For complete details look under Sacramental Preparation.

Holy Spirit parish offers additional programs for adults and youth (grades 5th – 12th). For more information, look under Adults and Teens.

Volunteers

Religious Education is 100% volunteer supported. Adult and teen volunteers are needed to make Religious Education a success. Please prayerfully discern a commitment to help us provide the most extensive program possible by volunteering in some capacity with us each year!

  • All enrolled families are expected to volunteer.
  • Over 70 Catechists are need every year to teach our classes. All of our catechists are volunteers. We need two adult catechists for each class offered. Tuition is waived to those that volunteer to be a Catechist.
  • There are many other volunteer needs including substitute, Hall Monitor, general assistance, special events, etc.
  • As required by the Archdiocese, all volunteers must be background checked and attend a VIRTUS training class.
  • You can sign up to volunteer at registration, under the Time and Talent module on the website or contact Allison Adair for more information.
