Great Books Discussion

Robert Hugh Benson’s (1871-1914) Lord of the World has been called prophetic by both Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis. Benson, descended from a long line of Anglican clergymen, began writing this work two years after his 1903 conversion to the Catholic faith. In this novel of the Antichrist, set in a fictional universe, Monsignor Benson accurately predicts interstate highways, weapons of mass destruction, the use of aircraft to drop bombs on both military and civilian targets, and passenger air travel in advanced Zeppelins.

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12th. Remember the special women in your life during the Mother’s Day Novena of Masses. Use the spiritual bouquet packets available in the Narthex. The packets will be available through Mother’s Day.

Monthly Collection for the Poor THIS Weekend

In the Gospel today, Jesus says to us, “This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you…You are my friends if you do what I command you.” Through  your donations to the Collection for the Poor you fulfill this
commandment. We are so very grateful for the continued generosity of the Holy Spirit parishioners. Most, if not all, of the friends and neighbors that we help are one paycheck away from crisis. There are three ways of giving:

  1. Give your donation to one of the volunteers holding a basket
  2. Scan the Venmo QR code found in the pews and notate “For the Poor”
  3. Select the “For the Poor” button on the home page of the website, then scroll down to May 5 “Collection for the Poor”.

If you are interested in the learning more about the St. Vincent de Paul society, please contact Jenn Molner.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Ministry Offers Cards in Anticipation of Mother's Day

Although Mother’s Day is a time of celebration, it can also be a time of profound grief for those suffering from the loss of a child or infertility. The Holy Spirit Pregnancy and Infant Loss ministry invites you to help those in our community who are grieving infertility or loss to know they are seen and loved. The ministry will be providing cards and pressed flowers in the Narthex after every Mass this weekend. Please stop by our table to write a kind word to those in your life who may be feeling sorrowful this Mother’s Day.

Bus Drivers Needed for Our Latino Community

We are in need of volunteers to assist members of our Latino community in getting to Mass on Sundays. Currently we provide bus transportation for those who are unable to drive, picking up on Northwood Drive, just inside 285 off of Roswell Rd., and returning after Mass. Volunteers are needed for both the 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Masses and need not serve every week. Please contact the parish office for additional information. Thank you for your prayerful consideration in helping with this important ministry.

Read to Succeed Book Drive

On June 1st, Catholic Charities Atlanta will host a first-time literacy fair – Read to Succeed - to benefit our client families’ 700+ children, toddlers to high schoolers. As our case workers can attest, most low-income Georgia families have no children’s books in their homes. With your help, we aim to provide 3-5 books for each child in attendance. To contribute a book, book series or gift card, shop our Amazon Read2Succeed gift list and select “Read2Succeed, Smyrna GA” as the ship-to at check-out, done! Deadline to provide books is May 18th.

For in-person shoppers, we have a local partner — Poe & Company Bookstore (1890 Heritage Walk P101, Milton, GA 30004, 770-797-5566). Stop in or give them a call for a 25% discount on your donation to Read to Succeed and free delivery to our Smyrna address.

Every book counts! Help break the cycle of illiteracy by nurturing a love of reading and learning. Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. - Kofi Annan. Sincerest thanks from Catholic Charities Atlanta.
