Safe Haven Sunday

This weekend, we will celebrate Safe Haven Sunday as an Archdiocese. This awareness day offers us a chance to reflect on the harmfulness of pornography in marriages, families and our culture as a whole, while providing helpful resources to both individuals and families. STRIVE and Restored Vows are both available online and free of charge. We know that the use of pornography in the home deprives its role as a safe haven and has negative effects on families across generations. It is my hope that the resources available to you on Safe Haven Sunday will both encourage and teach all individuals and families dealing with the effects of pornography that loving support is available. We also have complimentary resource books available in the Narthex. We encourage all families to take advantage of these resources.

And on Wednesday, May 15th, we will have a prelude to our anniversary kick off with a Easter Evening of Prayer and Worship performed by our Traditional Choir. Pregnancy and Infant Loss Ministry Offers Cards in Anticipation of Mother's Day

Although Mother’s Day is a time of celebration, it can also be a time of profound grief for those suffering from the loss of a child or infertility. The Holy Spirit Pregnancy and Infant Loss ministry invites you to help those in our community who are grieving infertility or loss to know they are seen and loved. The ministry will be providing cards and pressed flowers in the Narthex after every Mass the weekend of May 4th and 5th. Please stop by our table to write a kind word to those in your life who may be feeling sorrowful this Mother’s Day.

Monthly Collection for the Poor THIS Weekend

During the first three months of 2024, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought the love and care of Jesus to the poor by assisting 40 families (102 individuals), providing assistance with food, utilities, rent and temporary lodging. Our hotline continues to be busy as families are displaced due to job loss, skyrocketing rents, and healthcare challenges. Our intake volunteers listen with compassion and our conference members work together to share knowledge and resources, visit the families in their home and help financially to ease their burdens. Almost all of the friends and neighbors we assist live paycheck to paycheck and are often one small crisis away from being displaced from their homes. We are so very grateful for the continued generosity of the Holy Spirit parishioners. Your donations may be put into the 2nd collection basket at Mass this weekend or by using the Venmo code found on the Church website at any time. If you are interested in the learning more about the St. Vincent de Paul society, please contact Jenn Molner

Read to Succeed Book Drive

On June 1st, Catholic Charities Atlanta will host a first-time literacy fair – Read to Succeed - to benefit our client families’ 700+ children, toddlers to high schoolers. As our case workers can attest, most low-income Georgia families have no children’s books in their homes. With your help, we aim to provide 3-5 books for each child in attendance. To contribute a book, book series or gift card, shop our Amazon Read2Succeed gift list and select “Read2Succeed, Smyrna GA” as the ship-to at check-out, done! Deadline to provide books is May 18th.

For in-person shoppers, we have a local partner — Poe & Company Bookstore (1890 Heritage Walk P101, Milton, GA 30004, 770-797-5566). Stop in or give them a call for a 25% discount on your donation to Read to Succeed and free delivery to our Smyrna address.

Every book counts! Help break the cycle of illiteracy by nurturing a love of reading and learning. Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. - Kofi Annan. Sincerest thanks from Catholic Charities Atlanta.

Gold Award Project to Benefit Refugee Families

Parishioner Lauren Wilhelm, a sophomore at Holy Spirit Prep, is in the process of earning her Gold Award. Lauren is working with Catholic Charities Atlanta to collect much needed laundry necessities and provide education about the issues facing refugees when they arrive in Atlanta. Lauren aims to assemble 50 laundry basket kits (each containing laundry detergent, fabric softener, stain remover spray, dryer sheets, and a laundry basket) which will be distributed to refugee families upon arrival. Donations of supplies will be collected in the Narthex between April 10th and April 30th. You may either can the QR code to access the Amazon wish list or shop on your own. Thank you, in advance, for your support.
