Scripture Studies

St. Jerome said that to be ignorant of Scripture is to be ignorant of Christ. Scripture is the inspired word of God and is one of the major sources of Church teaching. We encourage parishioners to read and study the Scriptures through participation in our various study groups. Groups meet for approximately one hour weekly. All classes are open to new participants. Others will be added as interest increases.

Scripture Study Adult Tuesday 10:00 a.m.
Adults meet to study sacred scripture using the works of mainstream scholars. The group meets on Tuesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. from September to May.

Scripture Study Co-ed Monday 7:30 p.m.
The Co-Ed Bible Study unites men and women of varied ages who study the scriptures and sometimes other inspirational texts. The goal is to gain a better understanding of God's word and plan for us and how we can follow that plan. The Bible Study meets every Monday at 7:30 p.m. from September to May.

Scripture Study Men's Friday 7:30 a.m.
The Friday Men's Scripture Study has been meeting since 1984. More popularly known as the "Holy Spirit Bible Buckaroos," the group was established in honor of the Speiss family who tragically died in an automobile crash the previous Christmas season. After their death, that group donated a memorial to Holy Spirit with hopes that it would provide seed money to start a Scripture study. Four different groups were formed, one of which was the "Buckaroos."

The “Buckaroos” meet on Friday mornings from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. They choose a book of the Bible, find a good Catholic-based commentary, then meet to read and discuss the Scripture's meaning to us as we lead our lives in our families, worship, and work. They occasionally find topical Christian literature, e.g., C.S. Lewis' "Screwtape Letters" to read as a group to provide some variety. An important part of every meeting is the prayer and intercession time, when they praise the Father and "storm heaven" with prayer requests.
