VIRTUS Training for Parish Volunteers
Are you a parent or caretaker for children or a vulnerable adult?  Do you work or volunteer with children or vulnerable adults?

The Archdiocese of Atlanta offers VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children, a program to teach the signs of child sexual abuse and steps to prevent it.   Designed for clergy, staff, and adult volunteers, the 3-hour in-person class incorporates Archdiocesan policies and procedures, defining child sexual abuse and addressing the legal requirements of reporting child sexual abuse.

All volunteers working with children and vulnerable individuals are required to complete the VIRTUS training class prior to volunteering within the Archdiocese including all NEW volunteers and existing volunteers needing the 5-year rescreening. The following are examples, but not an exhaustive list, of those volunteers requiring training:

  • Religious Education Teachers
  • Vacation Bible School volunteers
  • Volunteer Coach in the Archdiocese (parish or school)
  • LifeTeen/EDGE Core Members
  • LaAmistad volunteers
  • Members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society who make home visits
  • Extraordinary Members of Holy Communion to the Sick / Homebound
  • Stephen Ministers
The course is offered for free at parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Atlanta including Holy Spirit. For information, including the complete schedule and how to register, visit the Safe Environment website or contact Tracey Pucci.
